If you’re single and in the military, it’s easy to feel forgotten.
That’s where the USO of North Carolina’s Single Warrior Birthday Cake program comes in. Through the program, family members of single service members can request a birthday cake surprise for their loved one.
“Our volunteers bake the cakes and then we deliver them on site and we surprise the service member, which is a lot of fun,” said Holly Coffer, director of the USO of North Carolina-Jacksonville center.
“We saw the program take off in the last year-and-a-half to two years, and that’s because of social media,” said Marisa Reeder, who serves as the center’s assistant director.
The USO also offers a similar birthday cake program at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and at several of its Pacific locations.
