Cpl. Vashey is welcomed home to his wife and loved ones.
“My husband was returning from his 4th deployment. We wanted the homecoming to be extra special for our 3 children so we kept it a secret. As far as they knew, we were there to welcome home the single Marines and Sailors and the woman taking our photos was from the news. When the buses pulled into the parking lot, my children held me tight and my son said, “I wish my daddy was on that bus too.” I held them tight and we all wished really hard that it would be his turn soon. It was so hard to keep this huge secret, but I’m so glad we did. Seeing their faces light up the moment they saw their dad was well worth it.”- Amanda Wright
After three days of travel this soldier is grateful he is able to surprise his family, even if it is only for two days, because so many he serves with don’t get the opportunity to return home.
