Petty Officer 1st Class Jeff Atherton was driving home when the car in front of him ran off the road and 54-year-old Karen Lee was ejected. PO1 Atherton’s training immediately kicked in when he pulled over to help her. While waiting for first responders, PO1 Atherton and nurse Jackie Cooper kept Karen awake and according to Karen’s friend if it wasn’t for Jeff she wouldn’t be here.
