President Trump and first Lady Melania Trump awarded the Purple Heart to an army sergeant who was wounded in Afghanistan. Trump presented the medal to Sgt. 1st Class Alvaro Barrientos in his first visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, whose right leg was amputated only last month. “So I heard about this, I wanted to do this myself. Congratulations on behalf of Melania and myself and the entire nation.” Trump’s visit comes amid his promise to expand veteran rights after recently signing a bill to expand veteran’s health care options.
