Soldier saves wife’s life when gunfire erupted at Las Vegas festival

A Folsom, California soldier was shot several times saving his wife from gunfire at a Las Vegas music festival. Lieutenant Derek Harp was at the Route 91 Harvest Festival when shots were fired from the Mandalay Resort and Casino.

While he recovers at a Las Vegas hospital, Harp said he is focusing on the bravery and heroism of the thousands of people who were at the festival helping strangers escape the chaos. He said he was driven away from the shooting on a stranger’s truck and brought to the hospital. “They really stepped up, and they did something quite remarkable…Their fellow citizen, their fellow Americans are going to be there to help them and, we need to recognize that,” Lt. Harper told KCRA.
