When Aden Meredith arrived at Lakeside Elementary School on Monday morning, he likely was expecting a normal day at school. The Orange Park first-grade student was in for a surprise.

The Orange Park first-grade student was in for a surprise.

A big one.

Aden’s father, John Meredith, is an aircraft mechanic in the Navy. The boy thought he would see his dad in about a week but was stunned when his dad, back home from deployment, walked up behind him, a story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said.

The two hugged for several seconds as other students applauded.

Aden’s teacher, Danielle, helped set up the surprise.

Principal Dawn Wolfe and assistant principal Christy Fowler were telling Aden’s class about Patriots Day and how April is the Month of the Military Child when John Meredith came out.
