Airman home for the holidays surprises daughter in her kindergarten class

Payson Stark was so upset that her dad was missing Christmas that she stopped talking to him during their regular video calls.

The 5-year-old’s father, Air Force Staff Sergeant Trevor Stark, has been deployed in Korea with the military for the past year and had told her he wouldn’t make it home in time for the holiday.

So to say she was shocked when she saw him in her kindergarten class at Middletown’s Reid Elementary School on Thursday would be an understatement.

The surprise, captured on video by PennLive, happened in the midst of a community helpers lesson in her class. It was all put together by staff at the Middletown Area School District. They had local heroes, including a firefighter and doctor, come in one at a time to talk about what they do. The last “helper” to come in was Payson’s dad.

You can watch Payson’s reaction in the video at the top of this post.

Payson was the last in her family to be aware of her dad’s return — her 3-year-old brother had been surprised earlier that morning when his dad was “delivered” to him in a giant box.

The Stark family will be moving to Germany at the beginning of January. But this time, they’ll be moving together.

Surprise reunions for military families has become a sweet trend of late. You can see other heartwarming reunions in the posts below:
