Nursing home’s farewell ceremony for Air Force vet goes viral

The farewell tradition at the Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home to honor veterans has gone viral after a woman shared a video on Facebook for her family to see.

After batting Alzheimer’s over the last few years, US Air Force veteran Douglas Timmons passed on at the age of 81.

His daughter, Laura Dorn, was touched by the final escort that he was given and wanted to share it with her sisters who couldn’t be there.

“Even at 5 am this morning with the few people that were available…they still honored him on his way out,” Laura said in the post. As the Taps are played softly, staff members and residents said their final farewells to the fallen hero before the precession exited the nursing home.

Russel Evatt who says the ceremony is done for every veteran that passes told Fox Carolina “They were good enough to arrive through the front door, so we want them to leave through the front door.
