Soldier jumps out of pickup truck to help rescue passengers from Amtrak crash

Second Lieutenant Robert McCoy had just avoided being a part of the Amtrak crash when he was traveling down interstate 5. There was no doubt that the Joint Base Lewis-McChord medic was in the right place at the right time.

He told KCPQ, “I remembered I had a tourniquet and a CPR mask in my truck and I grabbed those and I took off toward the accident… “I couldn’t afford to be scared, I couldn’t afford to be shocked. I had to do what I am called to do and focus and channel that and help these peple around me get to safety as best as possible.”
