A rookie police officer was surprised by her 21-year-old military son at her swearing-in ceremony, sending a wave of heartfelt happiness across the community of Irving.
Video of the surprise visit was shared by the Irving Police Department on social media, who were more than happy to show the world the kind of bond the family has.
“All swearing-ins are special but every once in a while one tugs at your heartstrings a little more than others,” the department wrote.
As IPD Chief Jeff Spivey handed Officer Erika Benning’s badge to her husband, her uniformed son, Army Sergeant Giovanni Pando, swooped in to pin it on her.
Despite attempting to maintain a professional demeanor, Benning burst into tears.
“I said, ‘Don’t cry, don’t cry,’ and I don’t know what happened, and then it was just tears. I cried,” Benning
According to Fox News, SGT Pando is a member of EOD, and currently serves overseas to deal with bombs and other explosive threats.
